One of the main purposes of lounge / cocktail music is to divert the centre of attention from a requirement to keep a conversation going. People can talk over the music or sit and listen. The general idea of a hotel lounge is to sit back and relax, whether it is before your evening meal or after a night out.

Many years ago the only option for this would have been a piano. Things are very different now in that using my hi-tech equipment, I can play a variety of classical music to 'big band' classics.

The piano is a wonderful instrument but can sometimes come across as second best when people are used to hearing full sounding CD music. I always ask what people think of the music when I go to see other people play - it's amazing how many people find just a piano a little boring. I am not here to criticize but to play to peoples tastes.
